Eyeing the booming photography industry in the country, Amazon India has joined hands with German maker Leica Camera to offer Leica’s exclusive products on its website. Leica which is a quality brand in Camera manufacturing and sports optic has already extended its product line to Indian customers through its offline stores since November last year. The company is all set to please Indian camera lovers through its amazing product range and exclusive Amazon offers based on the preferences and likes of the prospective buyers.
After its collaboration with IT solution provider SAP, Amazon India has gained a critical edge in terms of diversifying its customer base by joining hands with Leica camera. Since the company is gaining pace in the Indian e-commerce market, it is expected that this new deal would bring in positive show in terms of market capitalisation and revenue generation.
Increasing Demand for High-End Cameras on Amazon
Amazon India has witnessed a strong demand for high-end cameras in the past. This is evident from the fact that high-grade cameras like Nikon D5 and Canon 5D Mark 4 that cost around 4.45 lakhs and 2.8 lakhs respectively are out of stock and in demand most of the times.
Amazon offers over five thousand products and around 2.8 lakh accessories under the camera/consumer electronics category to its customers. These figures have increased around 2.5 times over last year as per the information provided by Amazon India’s official sources.
The German-based camera brand is seen as an Icon by photography enthusiasts around the world. Leica has decided to offer quality cameras like D-lux, V-lux, and Sofort ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 90,000 to the customers through Amazon India.

With an aim to diversify its product line in Indian market Leica would also offer high-quality binoculars starting from Rs. 34,000 to the Indian buyers.
Leica is seeing its partnership with Amazon as a tool to reach customers in far-flung areas by engaging with them effectively. Thus, customer satisfaction and retention is at the core of this partnership.
Amazon India, on the other hand, has its eyes on the $30 billion-plus Indian e-commerce market and the deal with Leica is a part of its strategy to dominate the Indian e-commerce setup. With a market share of around 31%, Amazon is less than a percent behind its competitor Flipkart.
With some big deals in the recent past by Amazon India in face of collaboration with SAP and this deal with Leica it is touted that now it’s a wait and watch game for Amazon before its efforts bring in the desired results.
The extension of its product range to incorporate foreign top brands in the respective category is surely going to give an edge to Amazon India over other players in the market apart from diversifying its customer base. The first mover’s advantage would always be on Amazon’s side, however, the risk of bounce back would be there as well.
